It's phonetic
Since we were talking about it last night, the Georgian language is a South Caucasian language, unrelated to anything else the average (or not so average) American would have heard of. But apparently, it has a "rich literary tradition" and has at least 15 seperate dialects. The Georgian alphabet emerged in its current form in the 11th Century, and looks like a cross between Thai and Greek.

I think it demonstrates how incredibly dorky we are that we were out at a party on a Saturday night and we were talking about the Georgian alphabet....
